Proclamation congratulating Ms. Mery Womack upon the occasion of her retirement after 39 years of dedicated service to the Allegheny County Controller’s Office.

WHEREAS, Ms. Mery Womack was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in a family of 14 children; She graduated from the David B. Oliver High School located on Pittsburgh’s North Side and has resided in her home in the Perry South neighborhood for nearly 30 years; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Womack married Willie Womack in 1987; She became interested in being a foster parent at an early age and became certified as a foster care parent nearly 40 years ago; Together with her husband, she has been a foster parent to over 60 children from the Pittsburgh area and she still fosters to this very day, including children with special needs. In July 2010, Ms. Womack was recognized by the Allegheny County Children Youth and Family Services for her 35 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Womack is the mother of 6 children, five by adoption. She took on the role of primary caregiver to her four grandchildren after the passing of their mother in 2008. She has volunteered for a Senior Independent housing complex as an activity coordinator, and Ms. Womack is a longtime member of the New Life Family Worship Center in Brighton Heights where she serves as a Sunday school teacher, Deaconess and Head Usher. She also organizes the church’s annual Back-to-School rally, providing a day of food and fun and much needed school supplies to neighborhood children; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Womack joined the Allegheny County Controller’s Office in 1978. During her tenure, she has worked for five different Controllers’ in a variety of positions over the past 38 years, starting in the computer room, working the night shift, until her retirement as a Payroll Technician. She is most often found behind the camera as she officially welcomes new County employees by taking photos to create identification cards;
