WHEREAS, Allegheny County is pleased to welcome the Italian American War Veterans of the United States for its 81st National Convention at the Wyndham Grand Hotel in Downtown Pittsburgh from August 4-6, 2016; and
WHEREAS, founded in Hartford, Connecticut, in 1932, and chartered by Congress on November 20, 1981, the Italian American War Veterans of the United States and its Women’s Auxiliary assist American veterans of both genders and all national origins; and
WHEREAS, with chartered posts in Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Ohio Pennsylvania and Rhode Island, the Italian American War Veterans was established for the purpose of caring for fellow veterans and their families, to foster patriotism in the community and to strengthen the ideals of God and country; and
WHEREAS, the Italian American War Veterans of the United States volunteers thousands of man-hours annually to help hospitalized veterans; and
WHEREAS, the posts of the Italian American War Veterans of the United States participate in local celebrations of Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, Veterans Day, and other patriotic events;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby extend a warm welcome to the members and families of the Italian American War Veterans of the United States upon the occasion of its 81st National Convention, August 4-6, 2016, and we invite the group to return to Allegheny County for future conventions.
