Proclamation congratulating the Baldwin Borough Police Department for earning the Law Enforcement Accreditation Award from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) on July 30, 2016.

WHEREAS, the Baldwin Borough Police Department received the Law Enforcement Accreditation Award from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Incorporated (CALEA) on July 30, 2016 at the CALEA Conference in Baltimore, Maryland; and

WHEREAS, CALEA Accreditation is an international award recognizing professional excellence in law enforcement and is considered the “Gold Standard in Public Safety”; and

WHEREAS, to receive this accredited status the Baldwin Borough Police Department went through a rigorous on-site assessment process to demonstrate that the agency met the professionally recognized criteria for excellence in management and service delivery. The Department was required to comply with more than 400 law enforcement standards to obtain this accreditation; and

WHEREAS, a team of assessors from CALEA examined all aspects of the Baldwin Borough Police Department policy and procedures, management, operations, and support services. Verification by the team that the Baldwin Borough Police Department met the Commission’s state-of-the-art standards was part of the voluntary process to gain accreditation - a highly prized recognition of public safety professional excellence; and

WHEREAS, of the approximately 18,000 law enforcement agencies in the U.S., less than 1,000 are CALEA certified. The Baldwin Borough Police Department is the second CALEA accredited police department in Allegheny County; and

WHEREAS, in addition to receiving accreditation from CALEA, the Baldwin Borough Police Department earned accreditation from the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (PLEAC) this year;
