Proclamation declaring Friday, September 30, 2016 to be “Pittsburgh Urban Magnet Project (PUMP) Day” in Allegheny County.

WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Urban Magnet Project (PUMP) was created in 1995 to make Pittsburgh a more dynamic and diverse place to live by giving young and young-thinking people a voice and inspiring them to affect change in our community through civic engagement, professional development, recreation and social networking; and
WHEREAS, PUMP has grown from a small neighborhood group into a professionally run nonprofit organization made up of young and young-thinking people and has built a national reputation for youth retention and engagement programming; and
WHEREAS, PUMP enables young professionals to meet and become engaged with each other in order to inspire a sense of community; and
WHEREAS, after decades of concern about Pittsburgh’s shrinking young population, recent studies of U.S. census data show that the city has joined the national leaders in attracting college-educated millennials; and
WHEREAS, the year of 2016 marks the 20th Anniversary of the Pittsburgh Urban Magnet Project;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby commend the Pittsburgh Urban Magnet Project and the work they do in giving young and young-thinking people a voice in our community, and we hereby declare Friday, September 30, 2016, to be “PUMP Day” in Allegheny County
