Proclamation congratulating Brookside Lumber Company of Bethel Park upon the occasion of its 90th anniversary.

 

Body...

 

WHEREAS, founded by Peter S. Edwards, Sr. in 1926, Brookside Lumber Company, the oldest business located in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, will celebrate its 90th anniversary on September 25, 2016; and

 

WHEREAS, P.S. Edwards’ sons, Pete and Frank, returned home after serving in World War II and joined the company in the 1940s, and the third generation joined Brookside Lumber in the 1970s; and

 

WHEREAS, the lumber company was named Brookside because of a residential area close by that was named “Brookside Farms.”  With the Montour Railroad aside the property, lumber was delivered by rail car and sold to builders in the local area; and

 

WHEREAS, Brookside Lumber Company expanded their service to local homeowners by building a showroom in 1967 with a drive-through loading area. Today, Brookside Lumber covers more than seven acres with over 100,000 square feet offering a wide-selection of quality products and outstanding customer service; and

 

WHEREAS, in 1998, the company merged with H.P. Starr Lumber Company, another family owned independent lumberyard located in Butler County, and the two companies have continued to grow with the surrounding communities;

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize Brookside Lumber Company for its 90 years of building a community, and we join the management and staff of Brookside Lumber Company in celebration of this historic milestone.
