Proclamation commending Bethel A.M.E. Church for hosting the 149th Session of the Pittsburgh/West Virginia Annual Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.

WHEREAS, Bethel A.M.E. Church will host the 149th Session of the Pittsburgh Annual Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church - Third Episcopal District (which includes Western Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia) from September 12 to September 17; and
WHEREAS, for the first time, this year’s annual conference merges the Pittsburgh/West Virginia District of Churches; and
WHEREAS, Bethel A.M.E Church is the “Oldest Church of Colored West of the Allegheny Mountains” and the oldest church of color in the City of Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, the first Annual Conference was held at Bethel Church in 1830; and
WHEREAS, the Third Episcopal District Presiding Bishop, The Right Reverend McKinley Young, will be presented and presiding during this conference held at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 2720 Webster Avenue, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby commend Bethel A.M.E. Church for hosting the 149th Session of the Pittsburgh/West Virginia Annual Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church from September 12-17, 2016 in Allegheny County.
