Proclamation congratulating Mr. Salvatore “Sal” M. Sirabella upon the occasion of his retirement after 39 years of dedicated service to the citizens of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Allegheny County and the City of Pittsburgh.

 

Body...

 

WHEREAS, throughout the history of Allegheny County and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, talented individuals who possess great knowledge and determination exhibit exemplary leadership and contribute invaluably to our communities.  After 39 years of dedicated public service, Mr. Salvatore “Sal” M. Sirabella retired from Collier Township on September 2, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Sal earned his political science/business degree from John Carroll University and in March 1977, he began his career in government with Allegheny County as Director of Administration/Chief Clerk. He was elected to serve as a Collier Township Commissioner in the early 1990s before joining the City of Pittsburgh to serve as Deputy Mayor under former Mayor Tom Murphy in 1994. Sal served as the Chief of Staff for the late Lieutenant Governor Catherine Baker Knoll (2003-2008) and as Director of the Office of Public Liaison for former Governor Ed Rendell (2008-2011). In July 2011, Sal brought his extensive government service to Collier Township as its Township Manager; and

WHEREAS, during Sal’s tenure as Township Manager, Collier has seen significant housing growth, the acquisition of the 71-acre Collier Community Park, the initiation of recycling, the creation of a comprehensive plan, the development of Meadow Path on Hilltop Road, the hiring of a chief finance officer, the installation of a dek hockey court and the start of an annual Oktoberfest celebration. Under Sal’s leadership, in 2014, the Allegheny League of Municipalities (ALOM) named Collier a “Banner Community” for providing effective, efficient and accountable services to its residents and businesses. Also in 2014, the township earned the Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence for its installation of a solar roof on the public works building; and

WHEREAS, Sal has served on 17 boards, some of which include Leadership Pittsburgh, Point Park University, Pittsburgh Musical Theater, the Salvation Army, Italian Sons and Daughters of America, the Sons of Columbus, the Pittsburgh Leasing Authority, the Pittsburgh World Trade Center and the Collier Historical Society; 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council hereby wishes to honor and recognize Mr. Salvatore “Sal” M. Sirabella for his 39 years of dedicated service, enhancing the quality of life for the citizens of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Allegheny County and the City of Pittsburgh, and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
