Proclamation declaring Saturday, October 22, 2016 to be “Pitt Make a Difference Day” in Allegheny County.

WHEREAS, the University of Pittsburgh, Office of PittServes will host the region’s largest day of service on Saturday, October 22, 2016 called “Pitt Make a Difference Day” engaging students with an opportunity to show their school spirit and serve their community; and
WHEREAS, Pitt Make a Difference Day (PMADD) is the University of Pittsburgh’s chapter of National Make a Difference Day, the most encompassing day of service in the United States. Inaugurated by USA Weekend Magazine, Make a Difference Day takes place nationally on the fourth Saturday in October; and
WHEREAS, Pitt Make a Difference Day has been connecting University of Pittsburgh students to the greater Pittsburgh area through community service since 2008, by giving back to the community in which they live and learn; and
WHEREAS, this year, more than 3,850 student volunteers provided approximately 20,000 hours of service to 100 community service sites in the greater Pittsburgh area;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby commend the University of Pittsburgh student volunteers for enhancing the quality of life in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County, and we hereby declare Saturday, October 22, 2016 to be “Pitt Make a Difference Day” in Allegheny County.
