Proclamation commending the Southwestern Pennsylvania Registered Nurses Club for holding its 24th annual Veterans Day Service, and recognizing the members that served in the U.S. Military Forces or U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps.
Body...
WHEREAS, on November 11, 2016, the Southwestern Pennsylvania Registered Nurses Club will hold its 24th annual Veterans Day Service at the South Park Nurses Memorial Monument to honor the military and cadet nurses who served with distinction at home and on distant battlefields for the United States of America; and
WHEREAS, on August 28, 1934, a monument along Corrigan Drive in South Park was dedicated to honor the nurses who served in the World War, and on June 17, 2016, the access road adjacent to the Nurses Memorial Monument was officially named “Nurses Lane;” and
WHEREAS, nurses from the U.S. Air Force Nurse Corps, U.S. Army Nurse Corps, and U.S. Navy Nurse Corps (overseeing the U.S. Marine Corps) were there to provide extraordinary care for United States soldiers during times of war, meeting their physical, emotional and spiritual needs; and
WHEREAS, on the homefront, nurses from the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps provided nursing care in U.S. hospitals, not only ministering to soldiers but also to their family members. Without their essential nursing services, hospitals would have been critically understaffed and unable to adequately treat patients; and
WHEREAS, military and cadet nurses played an important role in improving the overall quality of life for soldiers and their families, and have demonstrated great skill, sacrifice, and commitment to defending the principles upon which our nation was founded;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Allegheny County Council, on behalf of the citizens of Allegheny County, hereby commends the Southwestern Pennsylvania Registered Nurses Club for holding its 24th annual Veterans Day Service and for recognizing the courage, honor and dignity with which nurses have served and continue to serve in defense of our Nation, our Commonwealth, our County, our communities and our homes.
