Body...

WHEREAS, on June 12, 2016, after an impressive 48-26-8 regular-season record, the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the San Jose Sharks 3-1 to conclude a dramatic 6-game series to win, for the fourth time in franchise history, the Stanley Cup and become National Hockey League Champions; and

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Penguins have amassed one of the best winning records in the National Hockey League, having qualified for five Stanley Cup Finals and winning the Stanley Cup four times, back-to-back seasons in 1991 and 1992, in 2009, and again in 2016; and

WHEREAS, on October 6, 2016, President Barack Obama welcomed the Pittsburgh Penguins to the White House to honor the Stanley Cup Champions; and

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Penguins franchise, management and players have demonstrated the talent, skill and determination that has earned the affection and pride of Allegheny County and its citizens;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate the Pittsburgh Penguins organization for bringing the Stanley Cup back to Pittsburgh, and we commend these talented players and coaches for capturing the sport’s ultimate prize once again, continuing evidence that this is a County of Champions.
