Proclamation welcoming the Pennsylvania Black Conference On Higher Education during its 47th Annual Conference in Allegheny County.

 

Body...

 

WHEREAS, founded in 1970 by the late K. Leroy Irvis (Speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives), the Pennsylvania Black Conference On Higher Education, Inc. (PBCOHE) was established to ensure equal access to higher education opportunities for underrepresented minorities throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; and

 

WHEREAS, over the years, PBCOHE has worked with elected officials, K-12 schools and institutions of higher learning to promote the advancement of minorities and other underrepresented groups; and

 

WHEREAS, the 47th annual PBCOHE Conference will take place from Thursday, February 23, 2017 to Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the Doubletree Hotel Pittsburgh/Monroeville Convention Center; and

 

WHEREAS, the annual conference theme for 2017, INCLUSION: The New Face of Affirmative Action? is meant to explore various transition points for education in general and post-secondary education in particular;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Allegheny County Council does hereby welcome and thank the Pennsylvania Black Conference On Higher Education for hosting their 47th Annual Conference in Allegheny County, and we recognize and commend the organization for its many dedicated years of excellence, contributing to efforts in the Commonwealth by promoting academic achievement within the African American community, and for continuing to realize goals established from its inception.
