Proclamation congratulating Professor Mark D. Yochum, J.D. upon the occasion of his retirement after 33 years of service with Duquesne University School of Law.

WHEREAS, in the fall of 2016, Professor Mark D. Yochum retired from Duquesne University School of Law after 33 years of dedicated service; and

WHEREAS, a Pittsburgh native, Professor Yochum graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in 1974 and earned his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 1977; and

WHEREAS, Professor Yochum joined Duquesne University School of Law as an assistant professor in the fall of 1983, after working as in-house counsel for the Koppers Corporation for two years, and practicing law for five years before that with Berkman Ruslander Pohl Lieber & Engel, a predecessor firm to Buchanan, Ingersoll & Rooney; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure, Professor Yochum taught tax, professional responsibility, estate planning, legal writing, debtors’ and creditors’ rights and bankruptcy law. Most notable, he launched Duquesne University School of Law’s continuing legal education program and coordinated CLE programming from 1993 to 2012; and

WHEREAS, Professor Yochum has written and lectured extensively on bankruptcy and professional responsibility. He has been a regular lecturer for the Allegheny County Bar Association Taxation and Bankruptcy sections and national groups that have invited him to speak include the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges, the National Associations of Bankruptcy Trustees and Chapter 13 Trustees, the Association of Legal Administrators and the Internal Revenue Service; and

WHEREAS, Professor Yochum has been active in regional theater for 20 years, performing leading roles at the Little Lake Theater, McKeesport Little Theater, Washington & Jefferson College’s Olin Fine Arts Center and other local venues. He has been involved in more than 60 productions since 1980;
