Proclamation congratulating Dr. Joel Fishman, Director of the Duquesne Center for Legal Information and Allegheny County Law Library, upon the occasion of his retirement after more than 40 years of service.

WHEREAS, in June of 2016, Dr. Joel Fishman retired after a long and distinguished career as an author, professor and law librarian with expertise in the areas of bibliography and legal history; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Fishman earned his Master’s in Library Science from Queens College and his Ph.D. in History from the University of Wisconsin; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Fishman began his career as a librarian at Seton Hall University School of Law (October 1973-March 1977). He then became the head law librarian at Allegheny County Law Library (March 1977- November 1977) before joining Duquesne University Center for Legal Information as the assistant, then associate, director for lawyer services (November 1999-June 2016); and
WHEREAS, Dr. Fishman is a prolific author with more than 250 publications including more than 75 books/pamphlets, 75 articles, and 80 book reviews in various library, history, and law review periodicals. Through the library, he has published more than 40 books of court reports, bibliographies, indexes, legislative histories, and more; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Fishman served Duquesne University School of Law as an Adjunct Professor and as Adjunct Faculty of the Paralegal Institute. He also served as Co-Director of the Pennsylvania Constitution Web Site, the largest state constitutional web site;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Council of Allegheny County do hereby congratulate Dr. Joel Fishman upon the occasion of his retirement after 43 years of dedicated service as a law librarian and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
