Proclamation recognizing Free Store Penn Hills at the Lincoln Park Community Center and its efforts to eradicate suburban poverty one donation and resource at a time.

 

Body...

 

WHEREAS, inspired by free stores in Braddock and Wilkinsburg, on November 19, 2016, Free Store Penn Hills was established, with the theme of Love Your Neighbors, to eradicate suburban poverty one donation and resource at a time; and

 

WHEREAS, Free Store Penn Hills receives surplus and donated goods that are made available at no charge to neighbors in need; and

 

WHEREAS, located at Lincoln Park Community Center, 7300 Ridgeview Avenue, Penn Hills, Pennsylvania, 15235, Free Store Penn Hills is open to shoppers and donors on Mondays and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., hours that are aligned with the center’s food pantry schedule. In addition to a food bank, the center is home to Head Start classes, a branch of the Penn Hills Library and other family-oriented agencies; and

 

 WHEREAS, Free Store Penn Hills has created a warm and inviting space for visitors, and offers Saturday workshops for the community on subjects including breastfeeding, financial literacy, positive parenting, and community wellness; 

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize and applaud Free Store Penn Hills for its efforts to combat suburban poverty and for meeting the needs of the community.
