Proclamation thanking The Honorable Ronald “Huck” Gamble upon the occasion of his retirement after more than 50 years of dedicated public service.

WHEREAS, throughout the history of Allegheny County and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, talented officials who possess great knowledge and determination exhibit exemplary leadership in elected positions and contribute invaluably to our communities, our country and our world; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Ronald “Huck” Gamble was born in Oakdale, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, on January 2, 1933 to Dale and Gertrude Gamble. A graduate of West Allegheny High School, Mr. Gamble served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1953 until he was honorably discharged in 1956; and

 

WHEREAS, Representative Gamble served as Oakdale’s Justice of the Peace (1961-1969); Oakdale Borough Secretary (1962-1964), and Oakdale Borough Council President (1970-1976), prior to his election to represent the 44th District of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1976-1996); and

 

WHEREAS, during his tenure on Oakdale Borough Council, Representative Gamble led efforts to improve infrastructure and enhance the quality of life for the borough’s 1,500 residents. As a state legislator, he served as Chairman of three House Committees including the Local Government Commission, Tourism and Recreational Development, and Transportation. Mr. Gamble enjoyed debate and tackled issues such as affirmative action, public education, riverboat gambling, and unions, just to name a few; and

 

WHEREAS, after 20 years in the legislature, Representative Gamble returned to his beloved hometown and rejoined Oakdale Borough Council, serving every year as president;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize and thank The Honorable Ronald “Huck” Gamble for his more than 50 years of dedicated public service upon the momentous occasion of his retirement, and we wish him all the best as he moves into the future.
