WHEREAS, on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Duquesne University PNC Recital Hall, the “East Meets West” performance of Beethoven’s Cello Sonatas No. 1 & 2, will feature Adam Liu on cello; David Allen Wehr on piano; Seth Beckman on piano; and special guests from Lydia Music Center, the largest private music school in the Pittsburgh area, located in the Town of McCandless; and
WHEREAS, the performance, sponsored by Lydia Music Center and Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra Associate Principle Cellist Adam Liu, is the first grand concert throughout Pittsburgh’s history that explores the medley of traditional Chinese instruments with modern Western instruments, fusing the warmth of the cello sound to the soft melody of the bamboo flute and others; and
WHEREAS, the performance will combine traditional Chinese instruments with instruments from Western classical music to blend cultures in ways that promote cultural understanding and further cross-cultural musical exchanges;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize Lydia Music Center and world-class cellist Adam Liu for hosting the inaugural “East Meets West” concert and for bringing the musical traditions of Eastern and Western cultures to the people of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County.
