WHEREAS, throughout our history, women have been among the patriots who have defended our land and liberty from every enemy. Many women have served in the military, in occupations from pilot to nurse and in both peacetime and war. We owe all of them a special debt of gratitude for their part in advancing the promise of freedom. We do well to recall that we owe appreciation to our many veterans of military service who are women; and
WHEREAS, on Friday, March 10, 2017, Focus On Renewal Neighborhood Corporation, will honor local servicewomen during Women’s History Month at the Father Ryan Arts Center in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, the event will feature a private screening of a powerful documentary entitled, Journey to Normal: Women of War Come Home, produced and directed by Julie Hera DeStefano; and
WHEREAS, Ms. DeStefano will join special guests Kelly Hunt, Small Business Administration (SBA) Pittsburgh District Director and a panel of Sto-Rox veterans including Tracey Pedersen, Tina Marie Jones, Anita De Fratti, and Teressa Hogan, in a discussion focusing on issues facing women returning home after combat duty;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize Focus On Renewal for hosting an event which honors and celebrates the brave and strong women of the Sto-Rox community, and we honor the service, sacrifice, and love of country so gladly given by our women veterans.
