Proclamation recognizing the Caileigh Lynn McDowell Foundation and naming Tuesday, April 11, 2017 to be “Caileigh Lynn McDowell Day” in Allegheny County.

WHEREAS, The Caileigh Lynn McDowell Foundation was established in memory of Ms. Caileigh Lynn McDowell, a Woodland Hills High School student who passed away from this life on April 2, 2016 at the age of 17, after tragic complications from undiagnosed Crohn’s disease; and
WHEREAS, The Caileigh Lynn McDowell Foundation works to transform political, social and economic systems and institutions to create a kinder, more equitable and just society for all, while also advocating specifically about health issues affecting teenage girls; and
WHEREAS, Caileigh had a passion for advocacy and policymaking, and she loved unifying people, encouraging others, standing up for justice, sharing a smile and spreading kindness; and
WHEREAS, Caileigh’s tragic, unexpected death has created a community movement to remember and honor her goodness. She fought like a warrior, displaying courage, resilience and strength, enduring 7 surgeries and 42 days in the hospital. She serves as the inspiration for the Live Like a Warrior and Kindness Movements encouraging people to be kind to themselves and others and finding inner strength and conviction to make a difference for the better with love, compassion, and unity, leaving someone with a smile; and
WHEREAS, on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, family, friends and supporters will pay tribute to Caileigh on her birthday;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby honor the life of Ms. Caileigh Lynn McDowell and urge residents of Allegheny County to observe this day with random acts of kindness.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby proclaim Tuesday, April 11, 2017 to be “Caileigh Lynn McDowell Day” in Allegheny County.
