Proclamation congratulating Mr. Tom Duer for being named Pennsylvania Big Brother of the Year and Ms. Lauren Schieb for being named Pennsylvania Big Sister of the Year.

 

Body...

 

WHEREAS, Allegheny County is fortunate to have a number of teachers, community volunteers and individuals who support the mentoring movement and who work selflessly to improve our children’s odds for success in overcoming adversity; and

 

WHEREAS, each year Big Brothers Big Sisters of Pennsylvania selects a deserving Big Brother and Big Sister who exemplify the best of one-to-one mentoring; and

 

WHEREAS, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Pennsylvania has selected Mr. Tom Duer and Ms. Lauren Schieb as the 2017 Big Brother and Big Sister of the Year; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Tom Duer, an entrepreneur from Stanton Heights, has served as a Big Brother to Little Brother Samir for 4 years. Ms. Lauren Schieb of Highland Park is a special education teacher at Woodland Hills Junior Senior High School, and has served as a Big Sister for 6 years to Little Sister Shyae, a student at Pittsburgh Obama Academy; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Duer and Samir and Ms. Schieb and Shyae have enjoyed a variety of fun and worthwhile experiences and created a lifetime of memories;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate Mr. Tom Duer and Ms. Lauren Schieb for being named the 2017 Big Brother and Big Sister of the Year, and we thank each of you for serving as a positive role model, supporting vulnerable children and helping them succeed.
