Proclamation congratulating The Honorable R. Stanton Wettick, Jr. for receiving the Judge Robert E. Dauer Award for Judicial Leadership and Excellence from Amen Corner.

WHEREAS, Yale Law School graduate, Judge R. Stanton (Tony) Wettick, Jr., began his legal career at Kirkpatrick, Pomeroy, Lockhart & Johnson. He served as a full-time Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law from 1966 to 1969 and as a part-time Associate Professor with tenure from 1969 to 1971. He worked as the Executive Director of the Neighborhood Legal Services Association and was instrumental in building the full-time attorney staff to 75 by 1976; and

WHEREAS, Judge Wettick was appointed to the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County by Governor Milton Shapp in 1976. He remained on the Court thereafter until December 2016 when he was required to retire due to the mandatory age limit; and

WHEREAS, Judge Wettick has served in numerous administrative and leadership positions with the Court, including Administrative Judge, Family Division and Administrative Judge, Civil Division, Special Motions Judge for both the Arbitration Docket and General Docket. He was additionally the Complex Case Judge for 26 years; and

WHEREAS, Judge Wettick has headed the Civil Rules Committees of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania and Chaired the Ad Hoc Medical Malpractice Committee of Chief Justice Ralph J. Cappy in 2004. His Allegheny County discovery opinions have been published for a number of years and he has had other publications regarding the Rules of Civil Procedure and management of civil jury trials; and

WHEREAS, since his retirement, Judge Wettick has volunteered at the local office of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the Neighborhood Legal Services Association;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council hereby congratulates The Honorable R. Stanton (Tony) Wettick, Jr. (Ret. Judge), Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County...
