Proclamation declaring the week of Monday, May 15 through Sunday, May 21, 2017 to be National Police Week in Allegheny County. 

 

Body...

 

WHEREAS, the week of May 15 through May 21, 2017 has been designated as “National Police Week” to honor the memory of the hundreds of police officers who gave their lives in the line of duty; and

 

WHEREAS, every day across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Allegheny County, and the City of Pittsburgh police officers bravely and courageously risk their lives to protect and serve their communities and preserve the peace and order to which every citizen is entitled; and

 

WHEREAS, the Officer Down Memorial Page (ODMP) reports that there have been 921 line of duty deaths in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, including 12 K9 line of duty deaths; and

 

WHEREAS, we join with the families, friends, colleagues and neighbors of these fallen heroes to mourn their losses and celebrate their memories; 

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby honor the memory of all of the fallen police officers in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Allegheny County and the City of Pittsburgh during National Police Week and commend those officers who are still willing to give their life to protect and serve; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby declare the week of Monday, May 15 through Sunday, May 21, 2017 to be “National Police Week” in Allegheny County.
