Proclamation naming the week of Monday, May 8 through Friday, May 12, 2017 as Nurses Week in Allegheny County.

 

Body...

 

WHEREAS, National Nurses Week begins May 6 and ends May 12 each year, in conjunction with Florence Nightingale’s birthday; and

 

WHEREAS, there are more than 218,000 registered nurses in Pennsylvania and over 25,000 licensed nurses in Allegheny County, which makes nursing the largest licensed health care profession in our Commonwealth and County; and

 

WHEREAS, the depth and breadth of the registered nursing profession meets the different and emerging health care needs of the American population in a wide range of settings; and

 

WHEREAS, this year’s theme is “Nursing: The Balance of Mind, Body and Spirit” and the designation of 2017 as the “Year of the Healthy Nurse;” and 

 

WHEREAS, the care provided by nurses in Pennsylvania and Allegheny County is the primary component to a successful health care delivery system;

 

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Allegheny County Council does hereby declare the week of May 6 through May 12, 2017 as NURSES WEEK in Allegheny County, and we recognize the selfless service of our nurses and the overall importance of quality nursing care.
