The award recognizes the outstanding support of children receiving special education services. Olivia, a sixth-grader in the Neil Armstrong Middle School of the Bethel Park School District, was nominated for the STEPP Award by her teacher. Olivia was recognized for silently helping classmates and serving as a quiet warrior for students with disabilities. Ms. Greenawald, a Secretary in the Special Education Department for the South Allegheny School District, was selected for the Staff Award for going the extra mile for the district’s students with special needs. This Council congratulates Ms. Donna Greenawald for earning the 2017 STEPP Staff Award. Ms. Greenawald serves as an inspiration to this Council and to the citizens of Allegheny County.

Folmer Memorial Student, Teacher and Exemplary Practice or Partnering (STEPP) District/Partnering Award presented by the Allegheny Intermediate Unit (AIU) Local Task Force on the Right to Education. This award recognizes a school, a school based program or school district that has developed an exemplary practice to support the education of children receiving special education services or fostered the partnering of students, parents and professional staff to benefit students receiving special education services.
