Proclamation thanking School Police Officer Jim Modrak for his dedicated service to the Bethel Park School District and the community.

WHEREAS, Allegheny County has been blessed with exemplary leadership throughout our rich history, with visionaries of great knowledge and determination, making invaluable contributions to our communities, our country and the world; and
WHEREAS, Officer Jim Modrak joined the Bethel Park Police force as a patrolman in 1987, was named Officer of the Year twice, and retired in 2012 after 25 years of dedicated service; and
WHEREAS, on April 4, 2002 Officer Modrak became the Bethel Park School District’s first School Resource Officer. He received the Bethel Park Extra Mile Award for going the extra mile for students and staff; and
WHEREAS, in 2012, Officer Modrak became the Bethel Park School District’s first School Police Officer, planning and directing Bethel Park High School’s safety and security efforts. During Officer Modrak’s tenure, he coordinated educational and crime prevention programs throughout the District and was responsible for bringing the Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate (ALICE) safety program to Bethel Park; and
WHEREAS, Officer Modrak always had the best interests of the students in his care in mind, serving as a positive role model and developing a rapport with the children in order to open the lines of communication between students, administrators and law enforcement; and
WHEREAS, Officer Modrak was instrumental in providing a proactive and positive police presence in the school environment and successfully provided two-way communication between the Bethel Park Police Department and the Bethel Park School District, working to keep the schools and community safe;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Allegheny County Council does hereby honor and thank Officer Jim Modrak for his tremendous contributions to the cause of safety and security, serving the Bethel Park School District ...
