Proclamation recognizing the Law Enforcement Torch Run Committee and Special Olympics Pennsylvania and declaring Tuesday, May 30, 2017 as “Be A Fan Torch Run Day” in Allegheny County.

WHEREAS, to raise funds and awareness for the Special Olympics movement, the 7th Annual Special Olympics Pennsylvania (SOPA) Law Enforcement “Be A Fan” Torch Run will take place from Tuesday, May 30th through Thursday, June 1st, 2017; and

WHEREAS, the 2017 Be A Fan Torch Run is a 3-day, 150 plus miles, non-competitive segmented run from Pittsburgh (PNC Park) to Penn State University (Medlar Field); and

WHEREAS, more than 50 law enforcement teams from across the state will participate in the Run to kick-off the 2017 Special Olympics Pennsylvania Summer Games at State College; and

WHEREAS, law enforcement representatives from around the region and other dignitaries begin the long and inspiring journey with the lighting of the torch at home plate at PNC Park on Tuesday, May 30th, followed by the lighting of the Flame of Hope during Opening Ceremonies at Medlar Field on Thursday, June 1st;  

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Allegheny County Council does hereby thank the Law Enforcement Torch Run Committee for its tireless and extraordinary efforts in support of Special Olympics Pennsylvania, and we hereby declare Tuesday, May 30, 2017 as “Be A Fan Torch Run Day” in Allegheny County.
