Proclamation congratulating the Pittsburgh Black Nurses in Action upon the occasion of its 45th anniversary and declaring Saturday, June 17, 2017 to be “Pittsburgh Black Nurses in Action Day” in Allegheny County.

WHEREAS, founded in 1972, the Pittsburgh Black Nurses in Action (PBNIA), the local chapter of the National Black Nurses Association (NBNA), are guided by the National Association’s founding principal that African American nurses possess the understanding, knowledge, interest, concern, and expertise to make a difference in the health care status of African American communities across the country; and
WHEREAS, the local activities of the PBNIA include participation in outreach and community activities that are organized and executed for the purposes of providing health education, supporting health promotion, preventing disease, and empowering individuals to become their own healthcare advocates; and
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Black Nurses in Action works in collaboration with other local organizations and churches that include the Center for Health Equity at the University of Pittsburgh, Healthy Communities Pittsburgh 365 Initiative, Live Well Allegheny, and the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh, just to name a few; and
WHEREAS, on Saturday, June 17, 2017, the Pittsburgh Black Nurses in Action will hold their annual scholarship luncheon at the Le Mont Restaurant to honor the 2017 scholarship and award recipients;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate the Pittsburgh Black Nurses in Action upon the momentous occasion of its 45th anniversary, and we hereby proclaim Saturday, June 17, 2017 to be “Pittsburgh Black Nurses in Action Day” in Allegheny County.
