Proclamation recognizing Sister Rene Procopio for her many years of dedication and service to the Mooncrest Community in Moon Township.

WHEREAS, Allegheny County is blessed with organizations that are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in our neighborhoods and the community as a whole; and is particularly fortunate to have individuals such as Sister Rene Procopio who has dedicated her life to serving others through education and ministry; and
WHEREAS, since 2002, Sister Rene has worked tirelessly, along with the Felician Sisters, the former Neighborhood Association and the Township of Moon Historic Architectural Review Board (HARB), to revitalize the Mooncrest Community which is home to nearly 700 people in Moon Township; and
WHEREAS, as Director of the Mooncrest After-School Program, Sister Rene has served countless children in grades Kindergarten through 8, providing a safe, educational and fun environment where students can learn and grow; and
WHEREAS, Sister Rene, along with the Felician Sisters and the Neighborhood Association, established the Mooncrest Neighborhood Center in order to serve more children in the after-school program and expand programming to meet the needs of residents of all ages; and
WHEREAS, Sister Rene has forged strong partnerships with Robert Morris University, the Sewickley YMCA, Our Lady of Sacred Heart High School, Moon Area High School, Moon Township, Sweetwater Center for the Arts, and Youthtowne to provide learning experiences for children whom may not otherwise have the opportunity in which to participate;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize and honor Sister Rene Procopio for her many years of dedication and service to the Mooncrest Community, and we thank her for her commitment to ensuring that our communities are a better place to live.
