Proclamation recognizing July 4, 2017 as a day of celebration upon the occasion of Moon Park’s 50th anniversary.

 

Body...

 

WHEREAS, Allegheny County honors the hard work of Moon Township’s early citizens and volunteers who loved their thriving community and established Moon Park on July 4, 1967; and

 

WHEREAS, in 1964, the Parks and Recreation Board, chaired by former WTAE weatherman and Moon Township resident Joe Denardo, acquired 168 acres on Ewing Road and developed Moon Park; and  

 

WHEREAS, today, Moon Parks and Recreation oversees over 600 acres in three parks, including Moon Park, Robin Hill Park and Olson Park; and

 

WHEREAS, Moon Parks and Recreation works tirelessly to ensure the ecological beauty of the community and to provide a place for children and adults to connect with nature and recreate outdoors; and

 

WHEREAS, Moon Park marks its 50th anniversary by celebrating its citizens, volunteers, elected officials and staff who strive to preserve and enhance the community of today;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize July 4, 2017 as a day of celebration upon the occasion of Moon Park’s 50th Anniversary, and we urge all Allegheny County citizens to join in this celebration.
