body
This certificate is presented to Officer Christopher Vojtas and Captain Michael Terry upon the occasion of taking courageous actions that set a standard of excellence for all Allegheny County Jail employees. On May 24, 2018, Officer Vojtas was confronted by an inmate with a deadly weapon who threatened to assault him. Officer Vojtas deflected the weapon and activated an alarm, causing the inmate to retreat to his cell, where he held his cellmate at knifepoint. Captain Terry, who responded to Officer Vojtas’ call for assistance, was able to calm the hostile inmate and talked him into surrendering his weapon. Because of the actions of Officer Vojtas and Captain Terry, the situation resulted in the inmate surrendering without any injuries to inmates or staff.
