WHEREAS, in 1998, Eddie Bagwell the coach of the Rockdale Youth Baseball Association invited a 7-year-old boy named Michael to play on his team. Eventually, other children with disabilities began to express interest to play baseball, wear baseball uniforms, make plays on the fields, and round bases just like many of their peers; and
WHEREAS, by the 1999 spring baseball season, the Miracle League was formed and children with disabilities finally had an opportunity to play in team sports. The Miracle League makes sure that all individuals needs are met by having every player bat once per inning, all players are safe on the bases, every player scores a run before the inning is over (last one up gets a home run), community children and volunteers serve as ‘buddies’ to assist the players, and each player wins every game; and
WHEREAS, the two main objectives of the Miracle League are: 1) raise the funds necessary to build a special complex with facilities that meet the unique needs of the players, and 2) assist in the outreach efforts for Miracle League across the country; and
WHEREAS, currently there are over 300 Miracle League Organizations across the Country including Puerto Rico, Canada, and Australia, and on Wednesday, October 24, the newest addition to the Miracle League will be added: The Miracle League of Moon Township; and
WHEREAS, the Miracle League of Moon Township, was founded by Mike and Christine Magulick. The two were greatly inspired by their son Luke who has 5P minus, a genetic disorder that affects about 30 births a year in the United States. They wanted to have an adaptive playground in the area that their son, and all individuals with disabilities, could safely play; and
WHEREAS, at the 9,500-square foot custom, adaptive playground in Moon Park, baseball, soccer, and softball programs will be provided to athletes with special needs;
