Proclamation congratulating the South Hills Cancer Caring Center as it celebrates its 30th anniversary.

WHEREAS, the Cancer Caring Center is a local non-profit organization dedicated to helping people diagnosed with cancer, their families and friends, cope with the emotional impact of cancer. The Center is not an alternative to medical treatment, but is complementary to traditional medical treatment; and

WHEREAS, when the center first opened their doors, it placed its headquarters on Liberty Avenue in Bloomfield, Pittsburgh; however, as the Cancer Caring Center grew, the staff quickly realized a demand for services in the South Hills; and

WHEREAS, in 1988, the South Hills Cancer Caring Center opened its doors. The new center strives to make seeking support convenient and accessible to everyone in need in the South Hills. Its new program, the metastatic cancer support group, that is led by clinical scientists and instructors of medicines, addresses different forms of cancer that travel through the blood or lymph system to other parts of the body. Also, each month the center sponsors 29 support programs at various sites in the South Hills. By having a vast number of programs available at numerous locations, the Cancer Caring Center insures that individuals seeking assistance are able to easily find support during this trying time; and

WHEREAS, throughout its 30 years, the South Hills Cancer Caring Center has offered emotional support, free of charge to Western Pennsylvania residents who are battling or survived any type of cancer, along with their family members and caregivers;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that I, Allegheny County Council Member Sue Means, do hereby congratulate the South Hills Cancer Caring Center as it celebrates its 30th anniversary, and we commend the Cancer Caring Center for creating support opportunities for individuals and families seeking emotional support when diagnosed with cancer.
