Proclamation recognizing the 4-H program for helping young people learn leadership skills and revolutionize how youth connect to learning experiences outside the classroom.

     WHEREAS, over 100 years ago, the 4-H program began with the mission to help young people develop leadership skills and revolutionize how youth connect to practical, hands-on learning experiences outside the classroom; and

 

     WHEREAS, 4-H is a national program that helps young people develop knowledge and skills to become capable, caring and contributing citizens. As of today, over 6 million young people across America have participated in the 4-H program. Membership in 4-H is open to all youth, ages of 5 to 19, without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, gender, disability, sexual orientation, or marital/parental status; and

 

     WHEREAS, the program is dedicated to helping youth share work together in all kinds of projects, events and activities through local clubs, special interest groups, school-based and after-school programs and individual memberships; and

 

     WHEREAS, the 4-H Club is composed of the following: West Allegheny-community club and dairy, Pittsburgh Urban Christian School-in-school science, cooking, small animal, and chicken, E-Day-community science club, North Ridge Riders- horse, and Manely Horses-horse;

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Allegheny County Council Member Tom Baker, do hereby recognize the 4-H program for helping young people learn leadership skills and revolutionize how youth connect to learning experiences outside the classroom, and we and we commend Ms. Sue Warden and Mr. David Hannee for their dedication to 4-H and helping young people develop knowledge and skills to become capable, caring and contributing citizens.
