Proclamation honoring the National Wrestling Alliance(NWA) Heavyweight Championship upon the occasion of its 70th Anniversary, and recognizing Keystone State Wrestling Alliance Pittsburgh for hosting the 2018 FanFest and welcoming NWA World Heavyweight Championship back to Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, formally established in 1948, the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) World Heavyweight Championship traces its roots back to 1905, making it the oldest surviving wrestling championship in the world; and
WHEREAS, for over 70 years, notable champions, such as Lou Thesz, Buddy Rogers, and Ric Flair have defended the famed championship belt, commonly known as “Ten Pounds of Gold”, in several arenas across the United States, such as Forbes Field, Three Rivers Stadium, and Madison Square Garden; and
WHEREAS, the title of NWA Heavyweight Champion has been held by many renowned professional wrestlers. Some of those champions are: Harley Race, Dory Funk, Jr., Terry Funk, Sting, Dusty Rhodes, Ricky Steamboat, Ron Garvin, and Shane Douglas; and
WHEREAS, such famed local Pittsburgh wrestlers, such as Bruno Sammartino, Dominic DeNucci, Steve Novak, Sterling James Keenan and Sam Adonis have all challenged for the longest-tenured Heavyweight Wrestling Championship in the United States; and
WHEREAS, each year, the NWA names a World Heavyweight Champion that travels to each NWA territory around the world and defends the title against the top champion in that particular territory. On December 1, 2018 at Spirit Hall in Lawrenceville, Pittsburgh, NWA World Heavyweight Championship returns to Pittsburgh as two-time champion, Nick Aldis, defends against Keystone State Wrestling Alliance’s (KSWA) own Shawn Blanchard;
