Proclamation congratulating Coro Center for Civic Leadership (Coro Pittsburgh) as it celebrates its 20th Anniversary.

WHEREAS, founded in August of 1999, the Coro Center for Civic Leadership (Coro Pittsburgh) is a non-profit, non-partisan educational institute supported by alumni, other individuals, corporations, and foundations; and

WHEREAS, Coro Pittsburgh is a part of a national network that started in San Francisco, CA. in 1942. Rooted in the mission for training emerging leaders, Coro has grown to include programs in five cities, including San Francisco, Los Angeles, St. Louis, New York and Pittsburgh. Every year, more than 400 participants go through Coro programs nationwide;

WHEREAS, to date, over 2000 individuals have participated in a Coro Pittsburgh leadership program, including 35% affiliated with nonprofits, 25% from business, 15% from government, 15% in education, and 10% in philanthropy; and

WHEREAS, since 2006 Coro Pittsburgh has been a partner with the Public Allies Pittsburgh, an AmeriCorps program that annually trains 800 nonprofit leaders nationwide through a 10-month full time nonprofit apprenticeship. Through this partnership, Coro Pittsburgh annually provides $350,000 of Federal investment into nonprofits in Western Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, in 2019, Coro Pittsburgh is celebrating its 20th Anniversary of leadership development in the region. With this milestone, the non-profit will have their 20th Anniversary Gala + Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership Awards on Saturday, February 2, 2019. MLK 2019 is Coro's 12th annual fundraiser;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that I, Allegheny County Council Member Tom Baker, do hereby congratulate Coro Center for Civic Leadership (Coro Pittsburgh) as it celebrates its 20th Anniversary, and we thank them for their dedication to meet the needs of the citizens throughout the region.
