Proclamation declaring February 2019 to be Career and Technical Education Month in Allegheny County.

WHEREAS, previously known as vocational education or vo-tech, Career and Technical Education (CTE) provides Americans with a school-to-careers connection and is the backbone of a strong, well-educated workforce, which fosters productivity in business and industry and contributes to America’s leadership in the international marketplace; and
WHEREAS, 95% of CTE students graduate high school, which is 10% higher than the national average. CTE graduates are given experience in practical, meaningful applications of skills such as reading, writing and mathematics, thus improving the quality of their education, motivating at-risk youth and giving all students leadership opportunities in their fields and in their communities; and
WHEREAS, February 2019, has been designated Career and Technical Education Month by the Association for Career and Technical Education; and
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Public Schools CTE Program, comprised of 15 CTE programs located in the six comprehensive high schools in the Pittsburgh Public Schools District, is dedicated to preparing students for industry apprenticeships, job opportunities, and for two or four-year degree programs at Pennsylvania state-funded schools, community colleges, private schools and trade schools; and
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Public Schools CTE Program provides students with skills needed to succeed in college, career and life. The ever-increasing cooperative efforts of career and technical educators, business and industry stimulate the growth and vitality of our local economy and that of the entire nation by preparing graduates for career fields forecast to experience the largest and fastest growth in the next decade;
