Proclamation congratulating the South Fayette Library upon the occasion of its 25th Anniversary.

WHEREAS, public libraries have long served as trusted and treasured institutions that fuel efforts to better their communities, foster the free exchange of information, and support the foundations of democracy; and

WHEREAS, in the early 1990’s the commissioners of South Fayette Township called for a public place where the residents could gather. After hundreds of books and supplies were received through various donations, the South Fayette Township Library opened to the public in the South Fayette Township Municipal Building on January 9, 1994; and
WHEREAS, the South Fayette Township Library serves the 16,000 residents and is a proud member of the Allegheny County Library Association (ACLA), a system of 46 independent public libraries with more than 70 locations that work together, share resources and cooperate to provide a high level of public service to county residents; and
WHEREAS, the South Fayette Township Library has several physical collections including books, magazines, newspapers, DVDs and CDs. Additionally, the collection includes access to downloadable eBooks, eAudio, eMagazines, eVideos, eMusic; and
WHEREAS, South Fayette Township Library and Bridgeville Borough Library, located only a few miles apart, share resources through a management agreement. Mr. Ben Hornfeck serves as the director of the two libraries, and Ms. Erin Weaver, as assistant director. Together the two libraries work to develop a variety of programs that both South Fayette Township and Bridgeville Borough residents will be able to utilize; and
WHEREAS, South Fayette Township Library plays an integral part in the intellectual, educational, and recreational health and well-being of residents through its mission to provide a wide range of programs and services to inform, inspire and enrich the community;
