Proclamation honoring the efforts of American Legion Department Commander James Vollrath.

     WHEREAS, Allegheny County Council welcomes the American Legion Department Commander James Vollrath upon the momentous occasion of his visit to Springdale American Legion Post 764; and

     WHEREAS, born in Lancaster, PA, Commander Vollrath enlisted in the United States Navy in January 1981. Upon completing training, he was assigned to the USS Constellation and deployed to the Western Pacific and Indian Ocean in August 1981; and

     WHEREAS, in December 1988, Commander Vollrath was honorably discharged from the Navy and was given the following distinguished awards: the Sea Service Deployment ribbon (2^nd Award), Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal (2^nd Award) Navy Expert Pistol Medal, Navy Expert Rifle Medal, Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation with the “O” device signifying operations for actions conducted off Central and South America in support of drug interdiction operations; and

     WHEREAS, for the last 25 years, Commander Vollrath has been employed by the County of Lancaster as a Correctional Sergeant at the Lancaster County Prison. He is married to his wife, Valerie, and together they have two daughters and two granddaughters; and

     WHEREAS; Commander Vollrath has held numerous potions within the American Legion before becoming The Department Commander, those positions include: Post Sgt-At-Arms, Post Adjutant, District commander, Post commander, Eastern Section vice Commander, and serving on numerous Department and National committees;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Allegheny County Council Member Nicholas Futules, do hereby commend and honor the efforts of American Legion Department Commander James Vollrath, and on behalf of Allegheny County Council, we thank him for his outstanding service and exceptional leadership benefitting our Nation’s service members, veterans and their families.
