WHEREAS, “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” This quote once said by Christopher Reeve, fully embodies the actions of Sergeant Jerry Frankos of the Verona Police Department; and
WHEREAS, on the frigid evening of February 26, 2019, Verona Police Department responded to a missing person call; and
WHEREAS, when Sergeant Frankos arrived at the scene he was informed that local resident, Joann Semencar, had been missing for several hours. Sergeant Frankos immediately put the call out to surrounding communities and the A.R. Railroad Company that runs through the community at night; and
WHEREAS, it wasn’t long after the call was placed that Ms. Semencar was found wandering on the railroad tracks miles away from her home in the cold; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Frankos recovered Ms. Semencar and took her to a near by hospital where it was discovered that she had a non-malignant brain tumor which was the root cause of her erratic behavior.
WHEREAS, since joining the force in 2000, Sergeant Frankos has constantly displayed true dedication to serving his community. He is also the creator of the “Bike Derby” which is an annual summer event that helps children and their families make sure that their bikes are ready to ride; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Allegheny County Council Member Nicholas Futules, do hereby honor and recognize Sergeant Jerry Frankos for his actions displayed on February 26, 2019, and I commend him for his dedication to the community through his service as a police officer.
