Proclamation recognizing John Abraham Eastly of Boy Scout Troop 329 upon receiving the Eagle Scout Award.

     WHEREAS, founded in 1910, the Boy Scouts of America is one of the largest scouting organizations and youth organizations in the United States, with more than 2.4 million youth participants. The Boy Scouts of America goal is to train youth in responsible citizenship, character development, and self-reliance through participation in a wide range of outdoor activities, educational programs, and, at older age levels, career-oriented programs in partnership with community organizations; and

 

     WHEREAS, Eagle Scout is the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouting program. After a lengthy review process, only four percent of Boy Scouts are granted the Eagle Scout rank, which requires earning at least 21 merit badges. The Eagle Scout must demonstrate Scout spirit, an ideal attitude based upon the Scout Oath, Law and Mission, service, and leadership. This includes an extensive service project that the Scout plans, organizes, leads, and manages; and

 

     WHERERAS, John Abraham Eastly, a senior at North Allegheny Senior High School and a member of Boy Scout Troop 329 of McCandless, was recently presented the Eagle Scout Award; and

 

     WHEREAS, approximately a year ago, John began planning his Eagle Scout project. He opted to beautify the Sisters of Divine Providence motherhouse in McCandless, Pa. With the help of his scout troop, John spent several hours weeding, mulching and planting numerous shrubs around the motherhouse;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Council Member Cindy Kirk, do hereby commend and recognize John Abraham Eastly upon receiving the Eagle Scout Award, and we congratulate him for dedicating time, leadership, creativity and effort to making his community better.
