Proclamation recognizing all the vital services provided by Allegheny County Department of Public Works.

WHEREAS, Allegheny County Department of Public Works services provided throughout Allegheny County are an integral part of our residents’ everyday lives; and
WHEREAS, the support of an understanding and informed citizenry is vital to the efficient operation of public works systems and programs such as water, sewers, streets and highways and public building; and
WHEREAS, the health, safety and comfort of Allegheny County greatly depends on these vital facilities and services; and
WHEREAS, the quality and effectiveness of these facilities, as well as their planning, design and construction, is vitally dependent upon the efforts and skill of the Allegheny County Department of Public Works officials; and
WHEREAS, Allegheny County Department of Public Works is responsible for the approximately 780 miles of county roads and 550 bridges and culverts; and
WHEREAS, thanks to the unwavering dedication and determination of the Allegheny County Department of Public Works employees, the department successfully completed the following projects in 2018: 12 bridge projects; paved a total of 42.6 miles of roads; seven wall and landslide projects; inspected 10,071 inlets; repaired 1,030 of the 20,130 in-house road signs; painted 198 miles of road; and painted 9,000 feet of curb in the County Parks; and
WHEREAS, the efficiency and skillset of the qualified and dedicated personnel of the public works department is materially influenced by the people’s attitude and understanding of the importance of the work they perform; and
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that I, Allegheny County Council Member Robert Macey and All Members of Council do hereby urge all citizens to pay tribute to the vital services provided by Allegheny County Department of Public Works during this National Public Works Week, May 19-25, 2019.
