Proclamation declaring Saturday, June 29, 2019 to be “cardiacAWARE Day” in Allegheny County.

WHEREAS, cardiovascular disease is the single leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States, responsible for one in three deaths in the United States each year; and
WHEREAS, in 2018, cardiacAWARE a local nonprofit was established to help bring about more cardiac awareness by providing individuals with information and direction about cardiovascular disease, and
WHEREAS, by wanting to empower all individuals about cardiovascular disease, cardiacAWARE provides individuals with the following: “The Knowledge” for knowing and recognizing the warning signs and symptoms of a heart attack, stroke, or sudden cardiac arrest; “The Understanding” with the resourcefulness to call 9-1-1, start administering Hands-Only CPR and knowing where an AED is located and how to use one; and “The Ability” to allow them to be the individual who reacts in a pro-active manner and becomes that needed lifesaving bystander; and
WHEREAS, cardiacAWARE strives to transform schools, college/universities, community parks and recreation centers, public and private businesses, faith-based facilities, and municipal and state institutions into cardiac safe environments; and
WHEREAS, recently, cardiacAWARE has partnered with Allegheny County in their campaign to improve the health and well-being of Allegheny County residents and became a “Live Well Allegheny” Partner. Through this partnership, Allegheny County and cardiacAWARE are dedicated to reducing chronic disease (heart attacks, cardiovascular conditions and strokes) and increasing physical activity; and
WHEREAS, on Saturday, June 29, 2019, cardiacAWARE will host its first annual 3x3 Basketball Challenge at Moon Township’s Moon Park. This event is not only about basketball, but it is designed to promote education and awareness for heart fitness, cardiac safe environments, and the impor...
