Proclamation recognizing the PUMPED to Run program and its extraordinary efforts in providing access and recourses to local homeless on how to live a healthy and confident life.

     WHEREAS, PUMPed to Run is a weekday morning running group composed of residents of local homeless shelters and volunteer mentor runners; and

     WHEREAS, the PUMPed to Run program seeks to encourage sportsmanship and a team mentality to help set physical running goals, promote confidence, and encourage self-sufficiency. It ensures that everyone has a place, a voice, and access to information and resources to be healthy and confident.; and

     WHEREAS, committed to safely outfitting all interested homeless runners, PUMPED to Run accepts new and lightly used running shoes and clothes for homeless runners; and

     WHEREAS, on Sunday, June 9, 2019, PUMPed to Run 5k will take place at Bigelow Grove Shelter in Highland Park. All proceeds from the 5k will go to the PUMPed to Run program to support homeless walkers and runners at local area shelters to overcome the barriers to athletic participation;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that I, Allegheny County Council Member Tom Baker, do hereby recognize the PUMPED to Run program, and I commend the program for their extraordinary efforts in providing access and recourses to local homeless on how to live a healthy and confident life.
