WHEREAS, “The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” That quote by American essayist, Ralph Waldo Emerson, illuminates the true core of Pastor Donald Blinn, Jr. and his years dedicated to ministry services; and

WHEREAS, Pastor Blinn is a native of Pennsylvania who attended college at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio, graduating in 1981. He went on to the Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, IL in where he graduated in 1984; and

WHEREAS, Pastor Blinn’s long and storied career include his devoted service at the following churches: Broadway United Methodist Church in Chicago, IL; Baldwin Community United Methodist Church in Pittsburgh, PA; First United Methodist Church in Colorado Springs, CO; Wheatland-Farrell United Methodist Church in Wheatland, PA; Rochester Zion United Methodist Church in Zion, PA; Verona United Methodist Church in Verona, PA; Rosedale United Methodist Church in Penn Hills, PA; Anne Ashley United Methodist Church in Munhall, PA; and Warren United Methodist Church in Pittsburgh, PA; and

WHEREAS, after 35 years of dedicated service to ministry, Pastor Blinn will officially retire; and

WHEREAS, through the years, Pastor Blinn has served to guide the church through decades of change - both in physical and changing congregational needs; and

WHEREAS, a dedicated family man, Pastor Blinn is married to his wife Kim Drum and together they have one son, Benjamin;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Allegheny County Council Member Paul Klein, do hereby recognize and congratulate Pastor Donald Blinn, Jr. for his years dedicated to ministry services, and I wish him all the best in his retirement.
