Proclamation honoring 125 years of Carnegie Borough.

     WHEREAS, a celebration recognizing the 125 years of Carnegie Borough in Allegheny County will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2019; and

 

     WHEREAS, formed by the combination of boroughs of Chartiers and Mansfield, Carnegie Borough was named after the industrialist Andrew Carnegie, who donated one of his libraries and a high school to Carnegie Borough; and

 

     WHEREAS, in the early twentieth century, Carnegie Borough was a hub for many of the people living in surrounding rural communities that came in to town for purchases, selling of goods, health care, and worship. Carnegie Borough housed a rail yard that had connections to several railroads, and many Carnegie Borough neighborhoods were mined for coal; and

 

Whereas, Carnegie Borough covers 1.62 square miles and has a total population of 7,898; the borough has numerous charming establishments such as Main Street, Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall, and many churches. I am excited to join with borough officials this year to celebrate this wonderful borough’s 125th anniversary; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Allegheny County Council Member Pat Catena, do hereby congratulate and join in celebration with Carnegie Borough, as it celebrates 125 years since its incorporation. On behalf of Allegheny County Council, we wish the Borough residents, officials and businesses all the best and look forward to learning about, and participating in, the great things that the Borough will offer throughout its next 125 years.
