Proclamation honoring St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church upon the momentous occasion of its 165th anniversary.

WHEREAS, St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, located within North Park stands as a pillar for the local community, providing service ministries and spiritual guidance to generations of individuals and families; and
WHEREAS, in October 1854, St. Paul’s was founded and organized, and is the only known church in the United States to be in a park.; and
WHEREAS, the first worship building was constructed in 1855 at the cost of $300. It was located on a piece of parcel land donated to the church; and
WHEREAS, the first pastor of the congregation was C.F.W. Brecht Sr., followed by many other distinguished leaders; and
WHEREAS, as the congregation expanded, the current church building was constructed in 1874; and
WHEREAS, Allegheny County Council is proud to recognize St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church for celebrating its 165th anniversary on Sunday, October 20, 2019. The church is instrumental in serving the residents of this county through education, spiritual guidance, social service, nurturing, outreach and worship;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Allegheny County Council Member Cindy Kirk, do hereby honor and congratulate the St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church upon the momentous occasion of its 165th anniversary. We wish the church, its administration and its followers the best in all future endeavors.
