Proclamation congratulating Group Against Smog and Pollution (GASP) upon the occasion of its 50th anniversary.

WHEREAS, Group Against Smog and Pollution (GASP) is a non-profit organization in Southwestern Pennsylvania that is dedicated to fighting for a healthy, sustainable environment; and
WHEREAS, founded in 1969 by concerned volunteers, GASP works tirelessly to combat air quality problems by attending public meetings, engaging with the press, participating in educational events, permit reviews, and many more; and
WHEREAS, over the years, GASP has grown to a seven paid staff, including two full-time attorneys. Due to GASP’s unwavering determination, the organization has been influential in pressing Allegheny County to adopt pollution standards based on the Clean Air Act; and
WHEREAS, over the past 50 years, GASP has been devoted to educating and raising awareness among the citizens of Southwestern Pennsylvania by highlighting the important role of clean air to our health, environment, and economy;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Allegheny County Council Member Anita Prizio, do hereby congratulate Group Against Smog and Pollution upon the occasion of its 50th anniversary, and I thank them for their continued dedication to taking the steps of embracing clean air, and increasing public awareness about the importance of fighting for a healthy, sustainable environment.
