Proclamation congratulating North Area Environmental Council (NAEC) upon the occasion of its 50th anniversary.

WHEREAS, North Area Environmental Council (NAEC) is a non-profit and citizen-led organization in northern Allegheny County that is dedicated to promoting the quality of life in the community through the protection and improvement of a healthy and biologically diverse environment; and
WHEREAS, founded in 1969 by a concerned group of North Hills residents, NAEC works tirelessly to bring matters of land use planning, conservation and safe, sustainable communities to the attention of area residents, encouraging participation to achieve the goals; and
WHEREAS, due to NAEC’s unwavering determination, the organization has been successful in helping to clean up rivers, sponsor walks, picnics, and workshops, plant trees, stop pesticide spraying, create and maintain trails, sell seedlings, hold recycling drives, and present their concerns to local officials; and
WHEREAS, over the past 50 years, NAEC has been devoted to educating and raising awareness among the citizens of northern Allegheny County by highlighting the important role of watershed health and community involvement;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Allegheny County Council Member Cindy Kirk, do hereby congratulate North Area Environmental Council upon the occasion of its 50th anniversary, and I thank them for their continued dedication to taking the steps of embracing a biologically diverse environment, and increasing public awareness about the importance of fighting for a healthy, sustainable environment.
