Proclamation congratulating Construction Junction upon the occasion of its 20th anniversary.

body

     WHEREAS, Construction Junction is the largest reuse nonprofit organization in the Pittsburgh region that is dedicated to supporting and promoting conservation through the reuse of building materials; and

     WHEREAS, founded in November 1999 by the Pennsylvania Resources Council (PRC), Construction Junction works to help the community by providing salvaged materials, thus creating less landfill waste and offering homeowners and builders with less costly materials; and

     WHEREAS, located in a 30,000 sq. ft. warehouse in the East End neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Construction Junction has been giving back to the community for 20 years. With continued assistance from PRC, Construction Junction has evolved into a regional resource, not only for reuse but also for recycling of a range of materials: glass, paper, cardboard, batteries, florescent bulbs, Freon appliances, and small-scale scrap metal recycling; and

     WHEREAS, due to Construction Junction’s unwavering commitment to the community, in 2010 they formed a partnership with Goodwill to provide employment and training opportunities for those with barriers to employment. In 2014, they began a partnership called Project Re that introduces architecture students to used materials by partnering them with entry level construction trainees recently released from jail; and

     WHEREAS, every September, Construction Junction holds their annual fundraiser, Steel City Big Pour, which features small plates and craft beers from some of the area’s most creative and delicious restaurants and breweries. The funds raised go towards running costs, occasional improvements and further developing community partnerships and programs;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that we, Allegheny County Council Members Paul Klein and Anita Prizio, do hereby congratulate Construction Junction upon the occasion of its 20th anniversary, and we thank them for their continued dedication to the community, and increasing public awareness about the importance of utilizing reusable material.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto caused the Seal of the County of Allegheny to be affixed this 12th day of November 2019.
