Proclamation recognizing Etna Borough as the first EcoDistrict in the country.



     WHEREAS, through periods of economic distress and environmental threat, Etna Borough has rebounded as a resilient community that is dedicated to improving quality of life for all who live and work in the borough; and


     WHEREAS, in 2017, Etna Borough embarked on its EcoDistrict journey in order to bring about positive change in six key focus areas: water, air quality, mobility, energy, food, and social equity; and


     WHEREAS, Etna Borough, along with its neighbors Millvale and Sharpsburg, engaged in a partnership known as the Triboro EcoDistrict that allows the three municipalities to work both together and separately to advance their own sustainability efforts and reach their own EcoDistrict goals; and


     WHEREAS, Etna Borough covers 0.8 square miles and has a total population of 3,451; the borough is known to be a resilient community, and we are excited to join with the borough for being recognized as the first EcoDistrict in the country; and


     WHEREAS, with local leadership and civic engagement, Etna Borough is continuously working to implement projects and programs that lead the borough into a more vibrant, healthier future;


NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Allegheny County Council Member Anita Prizio, do hereby congratulate and join in celebration with Etna Borough, as it is recognized as the first EcoDistrict in the country. On behalf of Allegheny County Council, we thank the Borough residents, officials and businesses for developing programs and projects to create a healthier future for Etna Borough.
