Proclamation recognizing the 50th Anniversary of the Pennsylvania Black Conference On Higher Education.

     WHEREAS, founded in 1970 by the late K. Leroy Irvis (Speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives), the Pennsylvania Black Conference On Higher Education, Inc. (PBCOHE) was established to ensure equal access to higher education opportunities for underrepresented minorities throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; and

 

     WHEREAS, over the years, PBCOHE has worked with elected officials, K-12 schools and institutions of higher learning to promote the advancement of minorities and other underrepresented groups; and

 

     WHEREAS, the 50th annual PBCOHE Conference will take place from Thursday, March 26, 2020 to Saturday, March 28, 2020 at the Sheraton Pittsburgh Hotel at Station Square; and

 

     WHEREAS, the conference theme, PBCOHE: A 50 Year Journey - Our Past, Our Present and Our Future in Higher Education will facilitate thoughtful and meaningful conversation around the changing climate of Higher Education: funding, access, retention and success for African Americans and other underrepresented groups;  

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Allegheny County Council Member DeWitt Walton, do hereby welcome and thank the Pennsylvania Black Conference On Higher Education for hosting their 50th Annual Conference in Allegheny County, and we recognize and commend the organization for its many dedicated years of excellence, contributing to efforts in the Commonwealth by promoting academic achievement within the African American community, and for continuing to realize goals established from its inception.
